As we launch a new chapter of our landmark Powers in Place, we have also created a series of issue-based briefing notes to help our members digest the key takeaways from the comprehensive report.
Local authorities face “Kafkaesque” barriers to achieving Net Zero goals, reveals a comprehensive new UK100 report. Powers in Place calls for a new Net Zero Local Powers Bill and Net Zero Delivery Framework. The report is released as UK100 joins Chris Skidmore MP’s Local Mission Zero Network and announces plans to work together to drive forward policy solutions to overcome the barriers to local Net Zero.
For our State of the Network Report we look back at defining moments over the past five years with a short film featuring local leaders like Mayor Andy Burnham and Cllr Susan Aitken. We also have an accompanying mini report, and delve into our members' actions and ambitions on climate and clean air.
Air quality features prominently within the proposed legislation and many of the measures proposed are outlined out in the Government’s Clean Air Strategy 2019. Commitments are set out in the strategy to introduce an up to date legislative framework for tackling air pollution at the national and local level and also to strengthen local authority powers with respect to air quality.
